Ayahuasca & Master Plant Dieta

Led by

Maestra Clotilde Urquia & Maestro Leonardo Inuma

OVERVIEW

Entering the Medicine Path

At Rao Kaya, we invite people from around the world to come and learn about the fasciniting world of the traditional Shipibo plant medicines. Some people come for healing, others for exploration and some to learn deeply from the plants. We help you find what you’re looking for and welcome you to feel at home as part of the family as your process unfolds.

Far away from the noise and distractions of daily life, you’ll be able to reconnect with yourself through ayahuasca ceremonies, a plant dieta, and other traditional treatments. The whole process will be guided by two experienced Shipibo healers and our caring team, to create a space that helps you face your fears, release what no longer serves you, and dive deep into yourself.

This path can be challenging, but by trusting and surrendering to the plants, you open yourself to the world of the plant spirits the Shipibo have worked with for generations.

What you will receive

You’ll take part in up to six traditional ayahuasca ceremonies, guided by Maestro Américo Mahua and Maestra Clotilde Urquía.

In each ceremony, you’ll receive personalized healing through icaros–their powerful medicine songs–with which they clean your energies and call in the plants to support you in your process.

These ceremonies offer a space to face deep emotions, gain insight, release heavy energy, and reconnect with your true self.

As part of your retreat, you will be given a master plant, chosen specifically to support your unique healing journey.

Dieting with a plant helps deepen the process opened in ceremony, working on physical, emotional, and energetic levels.

Through daily connection, silence, and simplicity, the dieta creates space for clarity, inner strength, and a stronger relationship with the plant spirits.

This is a sacred Shipibo tradition and a very important part of the healing path.

Your own quiet space to rest, reflect, and reconnect, surrounded by jungle sounds and nature.

Each simple wooden hut includes a bed with a mosquito net, a hammock, and just enough comfort to support your process without distractions.

It’s a peaceful place to be with yourself, between treatments and ceremonies.

You’ll be served simple, nourishing meals 2–3 times a day, prepared to support your plant dieta and healing process.

Following traditional guidelines, the food is free from salt, sugar, spices, oil, and fermented ingredients—helping to keep your body clean and your connection with the plants strong.

Two of the reasons for this is:

1. The cleaner you are, the easier it is for the plants to work.

2. The Maestros say that the spirit of certain plants require specific dietary restrictions for it to be safe and effective.

Note: You will be given a comprehensive guide on diet restrictions, in preparation for your retreat.

Throughout your retreat, you’ll receive a variety of traditional Shipibo plant treatments to support your healing. These will include:

  • Vomitivo – A purgative made from plants, used to cleanse the stomach and prepare the body for deeper work.

  • Plant Baths – Cold or hot baths with medicinal plants to cleanse heavy energies, refresh your spirit and for protection.

  • Plant Steam Sauna – A steam sauna with medicinal plants to help release toxins and support physical and energetic clearing.

  • Rapeh – A tobacco liquid traditionally used to clear the head and gain energy.

Other treatments may be offered depending on your individual process and what the healers feel is needed.

We’ll take care of the transportation.

On the first day of the retreat, we’ll pick you up in Pucallpa–either directly from the airport or from your hotel–and bring you to the center.

You won’t need to worry about navigating on your own; we’ll make sure you arrive safely and feel welcomed from the very beginning.

We intentionally keep the schedule spacious to encourage deep inner work and minimize distractions.

This time of rest and quiet helps you stay connected to your process and the plants.

That said, we do offer a few activities throughout the retreat, such as:

  • A trip to the river

  • Artesanal market with traditional Shipibo Art

  • Artesanal workshops, such as traditional embroidery

  • Bonfire therapy, with live music played by the family
  • Or maybe playing some volleyball with the family, if you’re up for the challenge 😉

Remember that all activites are optional, you only have to participate when you want to.

the calling

Who is this for?

This could be for you if:

  • You’re ready to face what’s been holding you back – emotionally, physically, or spiritually.

  • You’re longing for clarity, healing, or a deeper connection to yourself.

  • You’re willing to step out of your comfort zone and surrender to a traditional process.

  • You value authenticity, respect indigenous wisdom, and feel drawn to learn from it directly.

  • You don’t want luxury – you want real, grounded healing in a supportive, family-run setting.

day-by-day

The Schedule

The schedule is a general guide, not a fixed plan.

Each retreat unfolds in its own way, depending on the needs of the group and the individual healing journeys.

There’s plenty of space built into the schedule for rest, reflection, and connecting more deeply with your assigned master plant.

Often, the most meaningful insights arise when you allow yourself to slow down, turn inward, and simply be.

The Healers

Maestra Clotilde Urquia

Maestra Clotilde Urquia was born and raised in the Shipibo community of San Francisco, close to where she now lives and holds ceremony.

She comes from a long lineage of Shipibo healers and was trained by several maestros, including her father, Julio Urquia, and the late Maestro Máximo – who is featured in the family documentary Onibo.

Her path with ancestral medicines began in 2010, and since then, she has dieted many master plants and deepened her practice through years of integration and service at various retreat centers. A few years ago, she opened her own center to share her medicine in her own way, together with her family.

In ceremony, she’s often described as having a maternal and caring presence, with elegant icaros that create a loving and supportive atmosphere.

Shipibo healer Leonardo

Maestro Leonardo Inuma

Maestro Leonardo Inuma comes from Isla San Francisco, close to where the center is located.

He was born into a lineage of healers and began his own journey with the plant medicines under his father, who is also a healer.

He started out of a need for his own personal healing. As he experienced the impact of the medicine, he kept going deeper into the work until he reached a level where he could lead and guide others in ceremony, just as his father did for him.

Besides being a healer, he’s also a talented flute player, and an active member of the community’s cultural activities.

In ceremony, he is known for his rhythmic and mesmerizing icaros. He is also recognized for his careful attention to the ceremony space and to everyone in it.

THE deeper reason

Why This Path Matters

The healers at Rao Kaya in an ayahuasca ceremony.

We don’t do this work because it’s easy.

We do it because we’ve seen what happens when people remember who they are.

When they finally sit with the pain they’ve been running from – and come out the other side lighter, clearer, and more alive.

This process isn’t about fixing you.

It’s about creating a space where healing can happen.

Where you’re not alone. Where you’re seen. Where the plants, the tradition, and the care of this place help you return to something real inside yourself.

If you feel the call, even if you’re scared – trust that. That’s how the path begins for everyone.

after the reterat

The Change Begins

You might leave with:

  • A renewed sense of purpose and direction

  • A deeper connection to nature and yourself

  • A deeper understanding of your emotions

  • A clearer sense of who you are and what matters to you
  • New connections with people on the same path

This is based on experience from our previous guests.

This is where the real work begins.
Integration can be gentle or intense – sometimes beautiful, sometimes uncomfortable. What matters is how you carry the experience forward: in your choices, your relationships, your awareness, and the way you show up to yourself and others.

That’s what integration means – living the lessons, not just remembering them.

We can’t promise quick fixes. But we do promise to hold a space that helps you reconnect with the medicine already inside you.

Because that’s where change begins.
